  Dr. Puma Shen (Assistant Professor, National Taipei University) is the Chairperson of Doublethink Lab, vice president of the Taiwan Association for Human Rights (TAHR), focusing heavily on disinformation and local tracking of privacy violations. He was a lawyer, and an expert in white-collar crime, including state crime, disinformation campaigns, and financial crime. He published several papers regarding Chinese information operations in Taiwan and the U.S., and is now investigating United Front Work activities in Taiwan and Southeast Asia.

  Ttcat (Min-hsuan Wu) is the co-founder and CEO of Doublethink Lab, a Taiwan-based organization that operates at the intersection of the internet, public discourse, civil society, and democratic governance. Doublethink Lab is researching modern threats to democracy and devising strategies to counter them. He is focused on mapping PRC online information operation mechanisms and facilitating the global CSO network to combat digital authoritarianism. Over a decade and a half, Ttcat has committed to LGBTIQA+, environmental, open government, and digital rights movements as an activist and campaigner.

<Person name="Bonnie S. Glaser" role="German Marshall Fund of the United States" photo="/images/people/bonnie_s_glaser.jpg">
  Bonnie S. Glaser is director of the Asia Program at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. She was previously senior adviser for Asia and the director of the China Power Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Ms. Glaser is concomitantly a nonresident fellow with the Lowy Institute in Sydney, Australia, and a senior associate with the Pacific Forum. For more than three decades, Ms. Glaser has worked at the intersection of Asia-Pacific geopolitics and U.S. policy. From 2008 to mid-2015, she was a senior adviser with the CSIS Freeman Chair in China Studies, and from 2003 to 2008, she was a senior associate in the CSIS International Security Program. Prior to joining CSIS, she served as a consultant for various U.S. government offices, including the Departments of Defense and State. Ms. Glaser has published widely in academic and policy journals, including the Washington Quarterly, China Quarterly, Asian Survey, International Security, Contemporary Southeast Asia, American Foreign Policy Interests, Far Eastern Economic Review, and Korean Journal of Defense Analysis, as well as in leading newspapers such as the New York Times and International Herald Tribune and in various edited volumes on Asian security. She is also a regular contributor to the Pacific Forum web journal Comparative Connections. She is currently a board member of the U.S. Committee of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific and a member of both the Council on Foreign Relations and the International Institute for Strategic Studies. She served as a member of the Defense Department’s Defense Policy Board China Panel in 1997. Ms. Glaser received her B.A. in political science from Boston University and her M.A. with concentrations in international economics and Chinese studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

<Person name="Charles Burton" role="MacDonald Laurier Institute" photo="/images/people/charles_burton.jpg">
  Senior Fellow, Macdonald-Laurier Institute, Centre for Advancing Canada’s Interests Abroad and Non-Resident Senior Fellow, European Values Center for Security Policy. Department of Political Science at Brock University specializing in Comparative Politics, Government and Politics of China, Canada-China Relations and Human Rights, 1989-2020. Counsellor at the Canadian Embassy to China between 1991-1993 and 1998-2000. Previously worked at the Communications Security Establishment of the Canadian Department of National Defence.

  PhD 1987 from the University of Toronto after studies at Cambridge University (Oriental Studies) and Fudan University (History of Ancient Chinese Thought Program, Department of Philosophy, class of '77). Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Post-Doctoral Scholar in Political Science at University of Alberta, 1986-88.

  He has published extensively on Chinese and North Korean affairs and Canada-China relations and has been commissioned to write reports on matters relating to Canada's relations with China for agencies of the Government of Canada. Charles is a frequent commentator on Chinese affairs in newspapers, radio and TV.

<Person name="Glenn Tiffert" role="Hoover Institution at Stanford University" photo="/images/people/glenn_tiffert.jpg">
  Glenn Tiffert is a research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, where he manages its project on China’s Global Sharp Power. A historian of modern China, Dr. Tiffert's academic research focuses on the PRC’s political and legal systems. His publications include studies on the Chinese judiciary, the drafting of the PRC Constitution, and more recently disinformation and digital censorship of the historical record.   He works closely with government and civil society partners in the United States and elsewhere around the world to document and build resilience against authoritarian interference with democratic institutions, particularly in the knowledge sector.

  J. Michael Cole is a Taipei-based senior fellow with the Global Taiwan Institute in Washington, D.C., the Macdonald-Laurier Institute in Ottawa, Canada, and the Taiwan Studies Programme at the University of Nottingham, UK. Prior to moving to Taiwan in 2005, he was an analyst with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) in Ottawa. He holds a Master’s Degree in War Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada. His two latest books, Cross-Strait Relations Since 2016: The End of the Illusion (Routledge) and Insidious Power: How China Undermines Global Democracy (co-edited with Dr. Hsu Szu-chien; Eastbridge), were both published in 2020.

<Person name="Roy Chun Lee (李淳)" role="Taiwan WTO and RTA Center" photo="/images/people/roy_chun_lee.jpg">
  Dr. Lee is currently the Senior Deputy Executive Director of the Taiwan WTO and RTA Center, Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER). Dr. Lee was members of the Advisory Committee of Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council from 2018 to 2020.

  Dr. Lee specialized in trade liberalization policy, WTO, services trade, Non-Tariff Measures (TBT and SPS) and regional integration. He is policy advisor for Taiwan’s trade policy and negotiations and serves as capital-based expert for WTO and APEC meetings since 2012.

  In other capacities, Dr. Lee is a frequent column writer on liberalization policy for major newspapers in Taiwan, and currently serving as an independent director of the board, Fubon Financial Holding.

  Before joining CIER in 2006, Dr. Lee worked as a regulatory expert project consultant, Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) and the ASEAN–Australia Development Cooperation Program (AADCP). Dr. Lee received his PhD in Public Policy from the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University.

<Person name="Maya Wang" role="Human Rights Watch">
  Maya Wang is the senior China researcher at Human Rights Watch. Wang has researched and written extensively on the use of torture, arbitrary detention, human rights defenders, civil society, disability rights, and women’s rights in China. She is also an expert on human rights in Hong Kong and Xinjiang. In recent years, her original research on China’s use of technology for mass surveillance, including the use of biometrics, artificial intelligence and big data, has helped galvanize international attention on these developments in China and globally.

  Wang has published on major international media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, ChinaFile, the Diplomat, the Guardian, and has been frequently quoted by international media including the New York Times, Reuters, Bloomberg News, and the Associated Press.

  Michael Mazza is a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), where he analyzes US defense policy in the Asia-Pacific region, Chinese military modernization, cross–Taiwan Strait relations, Korean Peninsula security, and US interests in Southeast Asia. He is also a senior non-resident fellow at the Global Taiwan Institute (GTI) and a non-resident fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. He writes regularly for the Global Taiwan Brief, GTI’s biweekly publication, and he has contributed to numerous AEI studies on American grand strategy in Asia, US defense strategy in the Asia-Pacific, and Taiwanese defense strategy. His published work includes pieces in The Wall Street Journal Asia, Los Angeles Times, Foreign Affairs, and Foreign Policy.

<Person name="Nadège Rolland" role="The National Bureau of Asian Research" photo="/images/people/nadege_rolland.jpg">
  Nadège Rolland is Senior Fellow for Political and Security Affairs at NBR, and a Nonresident Fellow at the Lowy Institute. Her research focuses mainly on China’s domestic, foreign and defense policy, grand strategy, and the changes in global dynamics resulting from the rise of China.

  She is the author of the book China’s Eurasian Century? Political and Strategic Implications of the Belt and Road Initiative (2017), “China’s Vision for a New World Order” (2020), “Commanding Ideas: Think Tanks as Platforms for Authoritarian Influence” (2021), and the editor of “Securing the Belt and Road Initiative: China’s Evolving Military Engagement Along the Silk Roads” and of “An Emerging China-Centric Order: China’s Vision for a New World Order in Practice.” Her articles and essays have appeared in a number of publications, including the Washington Quarterly, Strategic Asia, Politique Etrangère, Survival, the Diplomat, Foreign Affairs, the Wall Street Journal, and the Journal of Democracy.

  Prior to joining the NBR, Nadège Rolland served for two decades as an analyst and Senior Advisor on Asian and Chinese strategic issues to the French Ministry of Defense, for which she has been awarded the Medal of Honor.

  She holds a MA in China studies from the National Institute of Oriental Languages ​​and Civilizations and a MSc in strategic studies from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies. She is also a National Taiwan Normal University alumna.
